Jessica Hochstadt Sylvester

Jessica, give our readers a brief intro about what you do.

I am a double board-certified clinical dietitian with a private nutrition practice. At Florida Nutrition Group LLC, I offer patients an individualized approach to health management. All of my appointments are done virtually, from the safety and comfort of your home. My patients benefit from the personalized care they receive, as well as the interdisciplinary team of physicians and healthcare providers I’ve built and nurtured throughout my years of working in the medical field.

Most uniquely, all of my patients have constant and direct access to me and my network of healthcare providers. I take the time to thoroughly examine each patient's unique medical and personal history in order to develop a personalized nutrition protocol.

My board certifications are in complex nutrition support and diabetes management. I also currently serve as a National Media Spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. In this role, I connect with local and national media outlets to answer nutrition questions and contribute to research-based news publications.

Readers would love to hear how you got started / how you got to where you are today.

I currently have over a decade of experience working in the field of nutrition. My professional background includes clinical nutrition research, academia, food/science writing, and both inpatient/outpatient nutrition counseling.

Prior to opening a private practice, I spent several years working in local hospitals as a Critical Care Dietitian and part of the Intensive Care Unit and Trauma Unit teams. I have experience with both pediatric and adult patients. My counseling focuses on connecting with each patient in order to understand their background and medical history, and how they interact to manifest symptoms. In my current practice, I emphasize the importance of clarifying symptom/condition etiology and use this to guide treatment/nutrition interventions. My patients will tell you that I am as dedicated to their health outcomes as they are, and I am committed to helping each patient preserve and understand their health.

What have been your biggest challenge(s) so far?

Helping patients navigate insurance limitations to nutrition coverage. I currently work closely with national and state-level policy makers to help bring more awareness to nutrition care and advocate for broader coverage.

What you’re most proud of / what readers should know about your work / what sets you apart from others?

There are approximately 112,000 registered dietitians in the country. Only 38 have the number of advanced degrees and board certifications that I do. I care deeply about my work and am dedicated to growing with my practice and each patient.

What does success mean to you / what gives you most gratitude?

I love hearing from patients who have been able to completely alleviate symptoms that have plagued them for years after working with me. This means more to me than the diplomas on my wall.

How do you envision the next 5-10 years?

In the next few years, I hope that more people will be aware of the value of working with a registered dietitian.

What do you think is most unique about the city/population of Boca Raton and working with this community?

I grew up in Miami Beach, so the Boca Raton population is one that I joined only 5 years ago. What I am noticing is that this is a highly intellectual and driven community. Health is an absolute priority for each generation here. It's impressive to see.
